Website and visitor traffic

Website and search strategy consulting for Sydney businesses

Jotunfjell plans websites and search work for small and medium businesses across Sydney's North Shore, the Northern Beaches and greater Sydney. We work out what your site needs to do before anyone starts building it.

What SEO is, in plain English

The purpose of SEO is simple: bring more customers to your website. That happens by raising where your site appears when someone searches — on Google, Bing, or increasingly through AI assistants. The higher you rank, the more people click.

Most small business owners are sold SEO as something technical and mysterious. It is not. It is a set of practical decisions about how your site is put together, what it says, and how fast it loads. Those decisions are either made deliberately, or they are made by accident when someone builds the site.

Your ranking is decided by three things every search engine measures: how your site is designed, what it says, and how well it performs. Each one is something you can inspect, fix and improve. None of it depends on insider knowledge or special access.

Our part is the planning. We look at what your customers actually search for, what your site does with that traffic once it arrives, and which fixes are worth paying for in what order. You get a written plan in plain language, with the reasoning shown, so you can take it to any builder and know what you are asking for.

Design, content, performance

These three measures sit behind almost every ranking decision. Getting them right is unglamorous and it works.

Design

A clear structure search engines can read, with one page for each thing you do. If one page tries to cover five services, it ranks well for none of them. We map your services to pages, work out the order they sit in, and write down what each page is for before anything is built.

Content

Plain-language pages that match the words customers actually type or ask. The words your industry uses internally are rarely the words a customer uses. We identify the real search terms and questions for your trade and your part of Sydney, then set out what each page needs to say to answer them.

Performance

Fast, mobile-friendly and error-free, so search engines trust the site enough to rank it. Most enquiries now arrive from a phone. A site that takes six seconds to load on mobile loses people before they read a word, and search engines notice the same problem. Performance targets go into the plan and are checked after the build.

Who does what

Jotunfjell plans. The Website Workhouse builds.

Jotunfjell is the consultancy: the audit, the site structure, the search strategy, the page-by-page plan and the decisions about what to fix first. The Website Workhouse (websiteworkhouse.com.au) is a separate business that designs, builds and hosts websites and delivers ongoing search work.

Both businesses have the same director: Andrew Walshe-Cutter. That is disclosed to you in writing before any build is quoted, not afterwards.

You are free to use any builder you prefer. The plan is yours and it is written to be handed to anyone — your existing web developer, an agency you already use, or someone in-house. We will answer their questions and review their work against the plan.

Jotunfjell receives no commission, referral fee or margin from any other supplier. If we recommend a host, a tool or a tradesperson, there is no payment to us behind it.

How the search work runs

Four steps, in order.

  • Review. A technical, local and content audit of the site as it stands, ending in a prioritised fix list — worst problems and cheapest wins named first.
  • Fix. Speed, structure, errors and your business profile across the major search and map services.
  • Build. Pages written for what customers search or ask, one page per service, with the structure search engines can follow.
  • Measure. A monthly view of which searches bring enquiries, so spend follows what is working rather than what sounded good in a proposal.

The review stands on its own. You can stop after it, act on the list yourself, or have someone else do the work.

What it costs

All prices are ex GST.

Start with the free website audit. The Website Workhouse offers a short written audit by email: what is slowing the site down, what is stopping enquiries, and the three things to fix first. There is no obligation and no cost. This is the sensible first step for almost everyone — it tells you whether you have a real problem before you spend anything on solving it. Request it at websiteworkhouse.com.au.

From there:

  • Websites — from $1,000. Planned with you, then designed, built and hosted by The Website Workhouse. Their entry price covers a single-page site; larger sites are quoted on pages, functionality and content.
  • Local SEO — from $350 per month. Fix, build and measure, reported monthly. Delivered by the Workhouse.

Where a website is part of a wider business change — new services, a new market, a change in how you take work — the Transformation Plan (from $2,500) is where the website sits inside a bigger roadmap rather than being treated as a standalone job.

What to expect — and what nobody can promise

Search results take three to six months to show, and they compound from there. The work done in month one keeps paying in month twelve.

Light ongoing attention is needed. A site left untouched for two years slides, because competitors keep publishing and search engines keep changing.

No one can promise you a position. Not us, not any agency, not anyone who tells you otherwise. Search engines do not sell rankings and they do not disclose their full method. Anyone guaranteeing a number one spot is either guessing or quoting on a search term nobody uses.

SEO is not paid advertising. Ads buy a position and stop the moment you stop paying. SEO earns one, slowly, and it keeps some of that value when you pause.

Common questions

How long before I see results?

Three to six months for most sites, then improvement that builds. Technical fixes can show within weeks. New pages take longer, because search engines need time to find them, assess them and decide where they sit. Anyone promising results in thirty days is describing paid ads, not search.

Do I need a new website, or can you fix this one?

Often the existing site is fine and the problem is structure, speed or wording. Sometimes the platform itself is the obstacle and rebuilding costs less than patching. The free audit answers this question specifically, before you commit to either path.

Is SEO better than Google Ads?

They do different jobs. Ads buy visibility immediately and stop when the budget stops. Search work takes months and then holds. Most small businesses eventually use both — ads while the search work matures, then a reduced ad spend once the pages are earning their own traffic.
